Archives: What’s Happening in HTG Town

April 28, 2009

A Happening Editorial. Really. No Mention of That Funny Michael Vick News. But, You Know, That’s Good Stuff. What a Tool.

Pamela Anderson is a hypocrite. Apparently she’s desperate for attention and will do anything to let people know that she’s still breathing. As a well-known PETA advocate, the actress/model/spokesperson has been giving KFC grief for some time through an active campaign involving protesting and letter writing.

But guess what. It seems that appearing at the opening of the Sapphire Steakhouse and Gentleman’s Club in New York City isn’t against her PETA mindset. Is she just concerned for the welfare of chickens? Cattle don’t count?

Is that leather she’s wearing? Nope, just her skin. Powie!

So what does this mean for the following award?

PETA or PITA?
Pamela Anderson will guest star on your TV show for FREE (for up to 5 eps for free) as long as your show portrays a positive message about the prevention of cruelty to animals.

Undoubtedly the award will stand. But what message will a TV show’s producer and network be sending? With the only benefit of the award being the free use of Anderson, why can’t someone else be used? Maybe if some advertising money was given, there would be a chance that using the award wouldn’t be a load of horse hockey.

Until Pamela Anderson explains why she has caused such a fuss with her PETA cronies and still supported a steakhouse, we at Happening cannot support her or any of her work. Hypocrisy should only get a person so far.

Hey, It Sure Is Red. Golly, Kinda Like That Girl I Picked On in Grade School. Pulled On Her Hair and Everything. Sure Was Fun Until High School When She Turned Out Hot and Didn’t Want to Have Anything to Do With Me. Drats.

You can’t have too much of a good thing, especially if it’s news concerning HTG Hollywood. Czartim has just opened HTG Archive, which as of this writing has hit the floor running with two articles. We at What’s Happening have always encouraged other news sources, blogs, etc. There’s a lot of information that can be passed along concerning HTG. Just a few people can’t do it, let alone discover what’s going on. We’re anxiously awaiting a mission statement or what-have-you to see what we can expect from HTG Archive.

A link has been provided to the upper right. All citizens are invited to examine HTG Archive, along with the other off-site publications. Good luck to CT and his new endeavor.

Quick Notes

There’s an interesting bit on talented actress Felicity Huffman in the latest update to Lucian’s Musings. I agree, she’s terribly underused. But the key part is that Lucian will provide payment for her use through March 21. Gotta take advantage of that!

Opinion: More HTG producers should have blogs or whatever. They help keep things interesting and can provide important information. And they don’t have to be updated all the time, either. I’ve got the links to some sites to the upper right and will add to the list when more come to my attention.

What’s Your Favorite of 2008?

As we wrap up another holiday weekend here in HTG Hollywood, it’s time to get back to reporting on (surprise) what’s happening in HTG town. The Happening staff is busy gathering various news in hope for more steady publication after a bit of a dry spell.

For now, it’s time for some participation from the citizenry of HTG Hollywood. 2008 will be gone in a month’s time. What were your favorite moments of the year in HTG? The best of something? Think about it, get a list together, then comment via the link below. Let’s see what everyone thinks. Besides, emulating something that people like isn’t such a bad idea, is it? There are no categories. Best of/favorite whatever you wish, as long as it is a part of HTG.

What about a worst of list? No thanks. Please don’t include any of that. We’re a happy news source. :)

SJ: Observations On the Mayor Election

Being the opinioned individual that I am, I would be remiss if I didn’t sound off on the current mayoral election. Now, before you think that this is just some endorsement for my campaign, it’s not. I’ll leave those to the candidates that need them. I just like being paid for expressing my views, and considering that no one else is writing anything about the campaign, I may as well help give an overview to help all those undecided sheep that need someone to tell them who to vote for.

Let’s start off with the Orange Party. We have our incumbent Mayor Harmer and veteran actor Morgan Freeman. Personally, I’m at odds with Harmer. On one hand he’s not saying anything to promote himself, encourage your votes or anything at all. But at the same time he has others doing his campaigning for him. The dude has better things to do, ya, I like that. Guess he just let Bishop loose and wants to sit back and see the destruction from his office window as he sits in that damn chair of his (which will be mine!!!- oops, sorry). Then we have Mr. Freeman. Ok, the guy’s cool, I’ll give him that. But the guy’s old. Not only is he knocking on death’s door, he’s got his foot in it. The guy who played God is gonna be having lunch with him soon. Do we really need to worry about a Mayor that could die before the election is over? Wait a minute, that’s not a bad possibility. If he kicks it, we’ll have to vote in a new Mayor! So personally, I’d vote for Mr. Freeman just for the humor factor of him kicking it during office.

Then we have the Green Party. Sheesh, what can I say that isn’t already obvious. Both candidates are prime examples of politicians. Long winded, promise the world and spend to much time bickering. At first it was entertaining, then it quickly became annoying. Though it has settled down, the damage has been done. I really can’t take either of them seriously. At this point, both of them need to focus on being taken seriously rather than continuing to promise rainbows and sunshine. Because if any other candidate throws his hat in the Green Party, that person would most likely win by default. As it stands, I‘d flip a coin, but doubt either of them would make it past the primaries.

Then comes the Purple Party. And, to be honest, it’s the party I’m glad to be a part of. We have a chef with attitude, an actor with movie cred characters, and me. Granted, we don’t have Mr. Freeman, but we’ll do. This is a crew that could take on the Slacker Mafia and send them crying back to Papa Harmer.

Okay, we’ve got Gordon Ramsay. I had never heard of him before this election. I’ve caught an episode of his show and loved it. Hey, Cassy, take notes, darling. But seriously, a chef for Mayor? I want someone who’ll care about my movie, not if my omelet is cooked properly. Then there’s Mr. Blonde himself, Michael Madsen. If I wasn’t running, this is the guy I’d choose, by sheer force of his persona alone. Then there’s me. Well, like I said, this ain’t an endorsement, but I like the idea of a critic being Mayor. A studio head would be even better, but since one isn’t running, I’ll do. In the end, if I wasn’t running, I’d like to see a battle of character between Mr. Blonde and God and see which persona the citizens of HTG feel they would like to best represent them. Me, I’d take Michael over Mr. Freeman.

Well, hope that helped all you undecided or fence sitters. As it stands, there is still time to nominate other possible candidates if you’re interested.

And, as a final note, I don’t think I’ve seen the message board so active since that Thunderdome thing when I first showed up. Regardless of who wins, it’s been fun so far.

Suicidejocky’s Back With His Take On the New Unicorn Thing. You Know, What I Mentioned in the Previous Article. Go Ahead and Look If You Don’t Know What I’m Talking About. I’ll Wait. I Have a Sandwich, So I’m Cool With It.

It’s late, my editor wants an article and I need the cash. So here I am. What the hell is there to talk about….

Well, according to the ‘news’, something called the Slacker Mafia decided to create a blog. Well now, aren’t they special. So, being bored, I decided to check it out and found it quite interesting. It starts as your typical fanboy website about all their soon to be, but not yet, projects. Then it turned into a diablerie of the current state of HTG, which they feel is no longer up to their standards and is apparently a shell of its former glory. I also couldn’t help but notice the line about how HTG is “…a joke without us”. Being new here, I never got to witness this slow decline of HTG that the Slacker Mafia has noticed, or the fact that the Slacker Mafia even existed until today. I decided to do some checking up on them. Ya, I know, actual reporter type stuff. This place must be getting to me.

Anyway, on the card we have Mattricks, whose last movie was in ’07. Durden, whose contribution has been 2 whole films, his last one also being in ’07. And that’s as well for Marty, who has done an impressive 5 films, his last one being way back in ’06. Well, needless to say, I was impressed so far. Mind you, the only seeming relevance to the Slacker Mafia is the membership of Bishop. That made me wonder what exactly qualified one for membership in this self-proclaimed esteemed group anyway. Thing is, I don’t think they know either, as it seems Mattricks is the apparent leader, but by title only. Durden is their chauffer and Marty just hangs around crashing on the couch. Misio used to be a member, but left for unknown reasons, at least to me. Hey, I ain’t doing any real legwork here. Though it seems there may be an opening for anyone interested in groveling, bribing or sucking up their way into their ranks. Hmm, wonder if I’ve got a shot?

But hey, who am I to judge the Slacker Mafia based solely on their lack of contributions, or involvement and nippy back seat coaching? Not me, uh uh. Then again, maybe when they wake up and get the impression of the keyboard off their face, they’ll show us what the glory days of HTG were like.

I Didn’t Even Know the Unicorn Was Feeling Ill

As soon as one HTG information source fades away, another one emerges. (Cue Circle of Life.)

Slacker versus Unicorn is the new blog from the united group known as The Slacker Mafia. Its purpose, according to their first posting… “It is here you will be able to keep up on our everyday life. It will also be the only place you will be able to find Slacker Mafia Posters, Trailers, Casting News, and movie projects on the way.”

Apparently the blog doesn’t wish to hold back, as it slams the recent works of HTG luminaries Teufel, Cassy and Lucian. “And this is just a start” proclaims Slacker founder Matthew “Mattricks” Trixie.

I have provided a link to this new blog to the upper right. I believe it is the duty of all well-meaning citizens of HTG Hollywood to keep an eye on these fellows. The fate of our fair city may depend on it.
