To Boldly Go Where Two Others Have Gone Before…

They may not have been received well critically, but two of the three were box office successes. And the producers involved think that a newly announced film is taking advantage of their work.
Before the move to HTG Hollywood, producer Pedro of Baseball Mogul Productions penned the comedy Saving William Shatner. The Emmy Award-winning actor had been abducted by persons in a dark van. Close friend and fellow Star Trek alum Brent Spiner challenged teams of three to locate the missing Shat. The reward? A life’s worth of chicken wings. The film concluded in a Clue-style multiple-ending scheme, the final one having Shatner flying away with three talking monkeys on the lookout for burritos and hot babes.
Making his way to HTG Hollywood, Pedro wrote a sequel for the defunct Alexander Corporation. Called a brilliant concept by one reviewer, the film, featuring more chicken wings, cocaine and Disney, did not gain the same box office success as its predecessor.
Time for a third in the series, with Marlowe at the writer’s desk. Assisting Pedro with the original and having worked with Shatner on other projects, Marlowe felt qualified. Despite the negative reviews by those with questionable tastes themselves, Saving William Shatner 3 raked in cash at the theatres. Featuring time travel to find the missing Shat, the film parodied various sci-fi themes and contemporary movies and subjects.
Rumors have abound for a significant time that SWS4 is in the works. Would HTG embrace the light-hearted fluff? Or would it say nay, demeaning the in-jokes and crass comments?
In 2007, Monkey Island producer Trax proposed the movie Star Con. It centered upon, with no surprise, William Shatner. The comedy, according to the writer, has the following plot:
Simon Peters is a self classified geek and a Star Trek fan. When at a convention he meets William Shatner he learns a horrible horrible truth and he takes it upon himself to make sure it is never revealed. Kidnapping William Shatner he and several close/only friends (mainly from his DnD roleplaying group) head across the country (USA obviously) to hide the truth.
With the second month of 2008 upon us, Trax has offered the movie again. It took little time for some citizens to point out that the film had been done before… Not just once, but three times. However, according to Trax, the film would have nothing to do with the SWS movies (other than starring William Shatner).
And, to Trax’s pleasure, Flip Brothers Studio has picked up the film for distribution. However, the pleasure does not belong to producers Pedro and Marlowe.
“We feel that Trax is infringing on territory that he did not create,” commented a representative from Miracle Pictures, headed by Marlowe. “Pedro and Marlowe cooperated to create a special niche in film history. Whether the movies were well received or not is inconsequential. They created something. And someone else is taking advantage of it. Marlowe may not be acting angry about it, but we know deep down that he’s not pleased. He may publicly wish Trax good luck, but he’s just being nice.”
A staff member at Baseball Mogul Productions had the following to say, relayed from Pedro: “Coco.”
The makers of Star Con are looking at a March or April release.

The is the last thing that we need, right behind a Captain Planet movie.

And the last thing we needed was another super-hero origin story, but we keep getting those too. Just let people write what they want and are interested in.

Learn to take minor constructive criticism without going for the throat of the guy who offers it. Then you can give advice.

The tone and the style of comedy in “Star Con” is very than “Saving William Shatner”. It is also from a producer that was not around to see any of the “Saving William Shatner” series. It is a fresh fun story that our studio is glad to be presenting. We hope people give it a chance and enjoy it for what it is, a fun film that is meant to entertain.

I’ll give it a chance, but as a fan I’d also like to see Trax use his talents with an original work once again.
