Marlowe came into Club Chat and asked very abruptly, “What’s your most anticipated film that’s coming soon to HTG theaters?” He went on to say that “What’s Happening in HTG Town”, a HTG Store sanctioned magazine, would be paying big bucks for producers‘ answers to that very question. To play fair and keep this from turning into a studio plug, I have not included any Flip Brother’s Studio films in this short list of my most anticipated upcoming films (no matter how much I’m looking forward to particular films). This list has two films that are very different, one thriller by a veteran producer and an animation by a unknown.
The first film is the Tom Cruise United Filmworks Inc. vehicle, “Wireless,” from the returning Blacksmith Pictures. Blacksmith is easily one of the best writers I have crossed paths with online and I know how long he’s been working on this script and fine tuning it. MC48’s advertising of the film has been low key, seceratitive and spot on in my opinion. Sometimes, the less you show, the more I can’t wait to find out just what is going on. I know small tidbits of the plot and three of the total cast members. What could be better than solving this mystery on May 5th?
The next film on my list might surprise a few people. It’s a Sega Genesis video game adaptation! The team of Izzy, the writer, Brad Bird, the director, DomMVP, the creative artist and 21st Century Cat Pictures, the studio, is bringing the first in (maybe?) many Sonic the Hedgehog films. I don’t know about you, but I was always a Genesis guy and Sonic, well, he was Genesis! Brad Bird is the PERFECT choice for director and I know I’ll have no problem visualizing this project. And let’s talk a little about the all-star voice cast; Johnny Depp (Sonic), John Hurt (Robotnik), and Hugh Jackman (Knuckles), along with Tommy Lee Jones and Tobey MacGuire! I don’t know if those were Izzy or Dom’s choices, but who ever made them did damn good!
The big question here will be the writer, Izzy. Does he have what it takes to bring this video game with two cartoon spin off series to the big screen? I have no idea, but I can say that Dom has been non-stop supportive of this film and has stated on multiple occasions that the script is one of the best he has read. I usually would just believe that it’s a studio head hyping a future release, but with Dom, you know its genuine and I’m not only going to trust his word, but I’m going to go see this film right when it comes out in late June.
